There are two competitions within the event:

72-Hole Stroke Play (Professionals Only)

• Professional players compete in their own right for a professional prize fund, the winner being determined by the lowest overall number of strokes over the four-day tournament.

72-Hole Betterball Medal (Professionals Partnering Amateurs)

• The amateurs are teamed with a professional partner and together they compete for the Dimension Data Pro-Am trophy and an additional professional prize fund. They compete using the Betterball Medal scoring system whereby the lowest stroke, by either the pro or the amateur, is recorded for each hole. Amateur handicaps are taken into account.
